For those who care
The Commentator

This project is the realization of a dream of 60 years ago. Today, remarkably, I have control of the writing and publishing thanks to a tin box the size of a small suitcase and at relatively little cost.

It will be my privilege frequently if not always to present a contrary view. I find that many of the givens in our society do not bear comparison with ascertainable facts or with what one can reasonably deduce from what little is known. Even our relatively recent history is misrepresented. As for antiquity the general concept is well out of line with reality.

The Philosopher John Stuart Mill in his Essay on Liberty wrote

"If all mankind, save one, were of one mind and only that one held a contrary opinion mankind would be no more justified in suppressing that one than he, if he had the power, would be justified in suppressing mankind."

It is in this spirit that I may ruffle a few feathers from time to time.

Purveyors of certainty are on uncertain ground in many fields.

Accepting the possibility that we may be mistaken is perhaps the beginning of wisdom.
